Centrile Sterile Coordinator

Job Type: Part-Time

FLSA STATUS: Nonexempt

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Central Sterile Coordinator oversees daily operations of the Central Sterile Department under the direction of the Nurse Manager Surgical Services. Sterilization of instruments and supplies for the entire the hospital is performed. Disinfection and storeage of reusable patient care equipment including IV pumps, flowtrons, blood warmers, etc. is accomplished in CS.

 

REPORTS TO: Nurse Manager Surgical Services

PREREQUISITES: 1. High school graduate or equivalent.

  1. Obtains certification in sterile central processing from an organization such as IAHCSMM within one year of hire/ transfer date.
  2. Able to communicate effectively with physicians and hospital personnel.

4 Current certification in BLS.

  1. Must understand and apply strict sterile techniques for surgical procedures.
  2. Must be able to maintain composure and react quickly during emergency s

situations.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Must be able to work flexible shift work including weekends, holidays. Conditions may be

stressful.

  1. Must be able to take call as needed.

  2. Must maintain competency skills by completion of skills checklist within 90 days of

    employment and yearly.

  3. Must be able to assist with direct patient care. Potential exists for exposure to communicable disease, infections, body fluids and hazardous materials as well as radiation.

  4. Must be able to apply concepts of aseptic technique to set up and maintain sterile field.

  5. Must be able to ensure necessary supplies and equipment are present for procedure.

     

    1. REQUIREMENTS: 1. Must be physically able to lift, support and transport patients. Able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
  1. Requires full range of body motion. Requires standing and walking for extensive

    periods of time.

  2. Manual and finger dexterity and hand/eye coordination.

  3. Requires corrected vision and corrected hearing to normal range.

     

    OSHA CLASSIFICATION: Category 1: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. All procedures

    or other related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact

    with blood, body fluids or tissue or a potential for spills or splashes of them are Category 1

    tasks. Use of appropriate protective measure are required for every employee engaged in a

    Category 1 task.
