Respiratory Therapist (CRT/RRT) DAYS/NIGHTS

Job Type: Full-Time

Nature of Work:

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Respiratory Care Services, the employee in this position performs all modes of respiratory therapy procedures and related duties. This includes treatment, ventilator support, arterial blood gas analysis, diagnostic procedures, code blue emergency response, routine equipment maintenance and quality control.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs complete arterial blood gas analysis.

  • Provides and implements ventilator support for infants, children and adults.

  • Performs all modes of diagnostic testing as provided by the department.

  • Follows established Respiratory Care department policy and procedure manuals.

  • Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to established policy.

  • Maintains respiratory equipment, including cleaning and re-assembly.

  • Documents on patient records and department forms according to established policy.

  • Performs quality control measures on all diagnostic equipment in department.

  • Performs after hour on-call duty as assigned.

  • Performs maintenance protocol and quality control on blood gas analyzers according to department policy and Medicare regulations.

  • Provides respiratory care related duties for off-island medical transports of patients as assigned.

  • Performs in-service training and patient instruction as required.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION: Must be a graduate of an AMA or Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) school of Respiratory Therapy. Must be Certified or Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care. Must possess a B.S. degree in Respiratory Therapy and 2 years related experience preferred, or any combined equivalent of education and experience: (ie, A.A.S. or A.S. in Respiratory Therapy plus 5 years related experience).

    EXPERIENCE: Must possess at least one year experience in critical care in a hospital setting. Must have a strong background in ventilators and blood gases (both drawing and analysis). Must be able to provide consultation to physicians regarding treatment regimens and ventilator settings. Must be able to work on-call without direct supervision.

    OTHER: Must possess BCLS or ACLS certification for performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Requires basic computer skills for entering and retrieving patient data.
