To monitor performance and assist with procedures, to ensure that test results are given accurately and efficiently, to assist techs in problem cross-matching and achieving high quality results.
This is responsible for performing moderately complex to highly complex and specialized clinical laboratory tests/analyses of human blood, urine and other body fluids, tissues or substances using manual or automated techniques to obtain data for use in the diagnosis, management and treatment of disease/injury. Specific areas of accountability may include one, or a combination of, the following disciplines: transfusion service, chemistry, coagulation, hematology, microbiology, immunology, toxicology and/or urinalysis. Work includes 1) analyzing, interpreting, confirming, documenting and delivering test results; 2) operating and maintaining standard Lab instrumentation and equipment; 3) using the Laboratory Information System (LIS) in the performance of job duties and any other duties that may be assigned.
Shares responsibility in assuring all regulatory requirements are met.
Ensures Quality by: attention to detail, using good technique, assessing and responding to patient concerns, evaluating quality control and following quality control procedures.
Maintains appropriate inventory levels: monitors inventory levels to assure quality and that dating is current. Recalibrates as directed, reruns specimens and utilizes supplies as appropriate.
A.S. with experience equivalent to those required in the CLIA personnel standards to meet the standard for testing personnel in a high complexity laboratory. National certification desired, MLT(ASCP), MT, or MLS.
