EDUCATION: Associate Degree in Nursing required. Bachelor Degree in Nursing preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two (2) years nursing with focus in Diagnostic Cardiology, Cath Lab or Critical Care experience preferred.

CERTIFICATE, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Current license as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Arkansas required. AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) and AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.

JOB SUMMARY: The Cardiology Nurse functions in an extended nursing role, collaborating with physicians, and other members of the health team who provide care for cardiology patients. The Cardiology Nurse facilitates continuity of care from the patient's initial contact with the Hospital, through treatment and follow-up. Works under general supervision while providing patient care within Cardiology Services. Applies the principles of growth and development to the care of all ages of patients from young adolescent to geriatric. PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:

  • Adheres to North Metro Medical Center’s Mission, Vision and Values.

  • Coordinates procedure processes with Centralized Scheduling, Surgical Services, physicians and other departments that may be involved.
  • Provides patient's with educational and pretest instructions; conducts pretest interview, collects medical history and other related information. Evaluates patient's plan of care and revises as necessary based on patient's response to test or procedure.
  • Evaluates patient's physical condition before, during, and after test/procedure and assesses patient's response. Administers medications as needed according to department and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in performing/assisting with procedures including, but not limited to: stress testing, transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE), TILT table, enhanced external Counterpulsation therapy (EECP), electrocardiography (EKG), Holter application and scanning, King of Hearts application, cardioversions. pacemaker reprogramming, computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA), and the administration of conscious sedation during specialty procedures performed by physicians in conjunction with the CPS Department.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in hemodynamic monitoring and performing/assisting with role as Cath Lab RN with procedures including but not limited to: diagnostic cardiac catheritizations, angioplasties, pacemaker insertions, Peripheral procedures, balloon pump management and sheath removal.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and the skills necessary to provide age specific and appropriate care of the patient according to their age category; interprets data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs consistent with the care of the patient.
  • Communicates with physician / patient regarding therapy / treatment or procedure and assesses clinical data and makes recommendations as needed.
  • Records appropriate medical information within the department and patient's electronic medical record (EMR) in a concise / accurate manner; ensures all information for billing charges is complete. Assists in the revision of patient chart forms as necessary.
  • Completes department equipment competencies annually.
  • Participates in development and revision of nursing standards of practice relative to role.
  • Participates and supports community philanthropy and education programs.
  • Attends and participates in departmental meetings / inservices, North Metro Medical Center’s quality improvement program, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
