| Meet the CEO
Allegiance Health Management and North Metro Medical Center Board of Directors announced that Mike Schimming has been named Chief Executive Officer effective March 1, 2010. Mike has served as the Hospital’s Chief Financial Officer since January, 2009. Mike has developed positive working relationships with the Board, Physicians, and staff over the past year and has their full support as he moves into his new role. We look forward to Mike taking us to the next level as we “focus” on our renewed vision for NMMC.
Schimming brings more than 15 years of senior healthcare and 27 years financial experience to North Metro. He was born in Arkansas and lived much of his childhood in Maryland. Schimming has four grown children and is an avid sportsman. Tennis, golf, and water skiing are among his favorite activities to participate in outside of the office. He loves sports of all kinds and a long ride on a winding road on his motorcycle. He received his Bachelors in Accounting from Jacksonville University in Florida and his Masters in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University in Texas. Schimming has directed financial and administrative operations in healthcare settings for more than 15 years including hospitals in Arkansas, Texas, Missouri, and Florida.
Under Schimming’s leadership, North Metro shows significant financial improvement when compared to the same period last year. As of January 31, 2010, the hospital has improved its bottom line by $3.5 million, even with bad debts and charity write-offs at $5 million YTD. While net revenues (the money actually collected from Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial Insurance Companies, and patients) have decreased by close to $1 million, the hospital has reduced its operating expenses by $3 million. Almost $2.4 million of the improvements have come through salary and benefit savings. “We are proud that we have been able to accomplish such savings with very few layoffs. The key to success is keeping our expenses in line with our revenues. The next step is to improve and grow.” says Schimming.
Improvements and expansion to hospital programs include: expanding our inpatient Geriatric Psychiatry Unit from 23 to 31 beds and growth in outpatient Wound Center, Home Health, Physical Therapy and Geriatric Psychiatry. We are investing in new technology and improving the services we provide.
Our leadership team boasts some new faces: Jacque Davidson was named our permanent Chief Nursing Officer (after serving 6 months as interim), Lynn Muller (who has served as the Hospital’s Controller for 11 years) was promoted to Chief Financial Officer, and we have a new Physician Mgmt group in our ER. According to Mike, “The improvements have been due to the efforts of our entire team at NMMC. Our focus is on being your community hospital and providing quality healthcare and excellent customer service. I look forward to expanding my role in the community and building our partnership with the Air Force Base.”
