What is Peripheral Arterial Disease and how can it be treated?

PAD affects nearly 12 million people in the United States. PAD is caused by the buildup of fat and cholesterol, known as plaque, which disrupts normal blood flow to arteries. Symptoms of the disease often include severe pain, numbness, tingling or weakness in the leg. If left untreated, PAD ultimately can lead to amputations.

North Metro Medical Center patients now have another alternative in the treatment of PAD. The SilverHawk Plaque Excision System is a unique device that uses a tiny rotating blade the size of a grain of rice to shave away large quantities of plaque from inside the artery.

Unlike other procedures which simply push plaque up against the artery walls, the SilverHawk cleans out the artery by removing the plaque altogether.

For information about the silverhawk procedure or how to be screened for PAD, contact Kristen James, Marketing Coordinator at North Metro Medical Center, kjames@northmetromed.com, 985-7050.
